The country is currently facing the coldest weather for 30 years.
Cheshire West and Chester council have produced this video outlining their gritting procedures, it also includes advice for driving in icy conditions.
Councillor Neil Ritchie explains how and why they grit the roads, where prority is given and how we are at an advantage by having the countrys main supplier of rock salt, Salt Union Ltd, based within the county at Winsford.
The Winsford Salt Mine was first discovered in 1844 and is Britains oldest working mine, lying 200m below the Cheshire countryside. More here...
